Hey, thanks for tuning in to another Partner Interview at EcomBalance. At EcomBalance, we’re all about creating win-win partnerships where we are able to grow with other companies in the ecommerce space.
In this exclusive interview, we have a conversation with Pete du Pon from e-Comas.
Pete has been in eCommerce for over 12 years working in startups and scaleups selling across multi-channel before focusing on strategic partnerships across the eCommerce journey from marketplaces to logistics to the agency world!
Pete currently heads up the partnerships at e–Comas, a full service global Amazon agency.
Connor: Hey Pete, thanks for taking the time to chat with us here. We love getting to know our partners better so that our community can benefit from what our partners are offering and doing in the industry. To get started, can you give us a high-level overview of e-Comas and how it got started?
Answer: Great to speak today! e-Comas was founded by eCommerce expert Jérôme de Guigné in 2013, with the simple idea of helping brands sell products online. He quickly realised companies were struggling with establishing profitable and sustainable eCommerce strategies and the business evolved into where we are today working with major multinational brands to define and roll out omnichannel global expansion strategies, driving traffic through retail media campaigns and offering best in class technical infrastructure for their businesses.
Connor: That’s awesome! Can you dive a bit more into the marketing services you offer? I’m sure our audience would love to know exactly what problems you could solve for them.
Answer: Well, we do a lot more than solely marketing! We’re a full service, global agency helping businesses navigate the complexities of selling online. We offer consultative workshops for market evaluations or new product launches, we support with content creation and translations for new territories, and we syndicate that content to the marketplace end-points. Once the listings have been optimised we can run full media campaigns on Amazon and other marketplaces across the world, all supported by full account management.
Connor: Jumping off of that…if there was one problem you’d say that e-Comas solves best for your clients, what would it be? Why?
Answer: I think if there was only one problem, the world of eCommerce would be much simpler! It’s complicated selling online and Amazon doesn’t make things any easier – e-Comas is made up of experienced ex-Amazonians and eCommerce experts that help make things efficient: Efficiencies in terms of strategic expertise and knowledge sharing to scale, data efficiencies in knowing what metrics to follow and finally efficiencies in driving traffic through media campaigns.
Connor: As the company continues to grow over the next year, what are your plans for expansion? Any new products, services, or enhancements to your current services?
Answer: We will continue to focus on how technology and data can help influence strategic growth into new territories across the world. We plan to grow our inhouse data and retail media teams to capitalise on the evolving products and information on AMC (Amazon Marketing Cloud). We look forward to growing our presence in the US, South Africa and Asia.
Connor: And how specifically would you say that e-Comas and your team is different from other similar businesses in the industry?
Answer: Being a global company, we’re super agile and able to tackle multiple territories simultaneously supported by a multilingual team in all the right timezones. We have enormous experience in breaking down international blockers to growth and we’re super fast at reacting to challenges as they arise.
Connor: What made you decide to get involved in the marketing space? What’s your starting eCommerce story? From what we’ve found, a lot of business owners in the same space have fun stories of how they first started…
Answer: From a business perspective, Jérôme started e-Comas having been involved helping brands navigate the logistical complexities of selling online. Once in it, he realised that brands needed so much more support beyond cross border challenges! He then expanded the business into a full service agency to give that 360° approach to selling online and hasn’t looked back! Personally, I fell into eCommerce 12+ years ago, joining a music-tech startup following a career as a musician!
Connor: Love it! Talking more about the eCommerce industry, where do you see it going in the next 1-2 years? Any unique predictions that you could share?
Answer: It will be interesting to see how AI affects eCommerce not only in the way we work as agencies and the tools we use but also how it affects the way the end consumer shops with more recommendations and a higher level of customer engagement.
Connor: Giving you an open mic for a minute, what is something you’d want the EcomBalance audience to hear?
Answer: eCommerce is such an enormous industry and there are a host of opportunities out there in the current market you’re in but also beyond. It can be daunting but the hard part is getting started and once you’re up and running there is plenty of support to help you expand and grow.
Connor: Changing gears a little bit…When it comes to bookkeeping and accounting, what do you think the biggest pain points for business owners are? Feel free to speak from personal experience as well.
Answer: I think it’s a combination of understanding technical integrations and how to to pull data from multiple sales channels but also understanding the regulatory framework for all those channels and territories. These can often act as a huge blocker for expansion.
Connor: As we close this out, I just have one more question. Where is the best place to find and follow you and the company online? Also, if you have one, is there any special offer that you’ll be offering to the community today?
Answer: We’re always busy on LinkedIn so you can find us there or, for more information and to get in touch with a member of the team, head to our website https://e-comas.com/
