A Day In The Life Of… Esme Hewitt (Loyalty Analyst)

So let’s meet Esme Hewitt, a loyalty analyst at LoyaltyLion.

What is your morning routine?

I’m not going to lie; my morning routine differs every day! If I’m working from the office, I’ll wake up at 7:30 am, blast some Doja Cat to wake me up, get ready, and then leave at 8 am. It usually takes me an hour to commute. I enjoy my commute as I walk across Waterloo Bridge, and the views are stunning. I’ll also probably grab an iced vanilla oat matcha on my way to work to romanticize my life.

If I work from home, I always try to go on a morning walk before the start of the work day. I live in-between Clapham Common and Wandsworth Common, so it’s ideal. The walk wakes me up, sets me up for the day, and helps me get in my 10k steps! However, some days my alarm does get snoozed a couple of times, depending on how I slept that night. You’ve got to listen to your body!

What does a typical day look like?

After my morning routine, I will check my emails, messages and write a to-do list. I easily get overwhelmed and distracted, so it helps me focus when I plan my day. It’s also satisfying to see how many tasks I have ticked off my list. Then I will reorganise my calendar, so I can have every work minute planed and structured – I’ll even block out a 10-minute walk or a brainstorm session to balance my feng shui!

Usually, I will focus on admin tasks in the morning, like sorting through my pipeline, checking contacts, and organizing accounts. I will then have lunch and go to the gym for a quick workout if I work from home. In the second half of the day, I will work on outbound activities: emailing, messaging on LinkedIn, and cold calls. I will clock off at 6 pm or sometimes earlier/later depending on what time I have started working.

How do you spend your evening?

How don’t I spend my evening? It varies a lot, and I would say it is very seasonal. With being summer now, I am making the most of it by going for drinks or dinner with my friends al fresco style. If I’m in the office, we usually crack open a bottle of wine and then head to a pub. During the heatwave, a few of us stayed until 10 pm in the office playing cards for the air con!

Then, if there’s nothing in my diary, I will go to the gym or for a walk/run in the park and then cook dinner with my housemates and watch Love Island.

During winter, I will get home and go straight to bed as it gets dark at 5 pm!! Before bed, I either try and journal, read or do my manifestations. I think it is necessary to wind down properly before bed and practice gratitude – I learnt this from “100 Essays That Will Change the Way You Think”.

We have a team social with another team in the company once every quarter, which is always super fun! It’s always good to meet other team members you wouldn’t usually see in the office. I’m also on the social committee with another two of my colleagues in the Sales team, which means we are in charge of organizing our team social. For our last one, we went to Pizza Pilgrims for dinner, followed by Queens Bowling which was a good laugh. Free pizza and bowling? It would be rude not to.

How did you get the job?

My friends from university and I moved down to London at a similar time, I was waiting for drama school applications and they had all started new jobs or graduate schemes. A few of them had taken place in an assessment center by Venetrix, which had landed them SaaS Sales roles and were making a lot of money – they said I should give it a go over Summer while I was waiting, so I thought yolo, why not!

Venetrix is a recruitment agency that puts you forward for multiple assessment centers for different SaaS companies. I did four assessment centers in 2 weeks, and then LoyaltyLion was the 5th one. It was pretty intense! With LoyaltyLion being the last assessment centre I did, I felt more confident and prepared as they all followed a similar structure. When researching LoyaltyLion, I loved how the values stood out to me. I had two more interviews and got offered the role the following week.

I was recently promoted from a Loyalty Executive to a Loyalty Analyst for hitting 163% of my target in Q1.

Why does your role as a loyalty analyst matter?

My current role is a loyalty analyst in the Sales Team. Being a part of the Sales Team means I drive revenue for the company through prospecting ecommerce merchants. My job is to get the prospect into the room (or on the Zoom call). That can happen through email, cold calling, LinkedIn, or even WhatsApp! Persistence and creativity are key.

What’s your proudest achievement as a loyalty analyst at LoyaltyLion?

My proudest achievement is probably having three deals close in my first quarter of outbounding! And with these three newly signed clients, I hit 163% of my target. However, it set the bar high for the rest of the year. The pressure is now on!

Tell us your favorite thing about LoyaltyLion!

I have a few! Definitely, the people! To say I’ve only worked here for less than a year, I know that I have made friends for life. That fits within the culture; we’re constantly growing, changing, and learning. I love how everyone’s ideas and opinions are listened to and valued. It’s great to feel a part of a company and a valued individual rather than a number.

My favorite values are to get uncomfortable and grow and team before ego. At LoyaltyLion, we are one team, and everyone wants each other to succeed. Similarly, it’s essential to feel comfortable in a role, but I think this value means we should always push ourselves to try something new. If we aren’t uncomfortable, we aren’t learning and not growing.

What advice would you give to someone thinking of joining the company?

My advice would be to be yourself! Don’t be afraid to ask questions, and be ready to learn a lot. When I first joined, I asked my buddy about 20 questions per day (thank you, Ben!!) and am still asking. LoyaltyLion loves curious individuals and wants to help people not only find their feet but help you grow to where you want to go.
