Meet the Octane AI Team: Valentina Barron

meet-the-octane-ai-team:-valentina-barron

Octane AI has many talented remote team members working together to build the #1 conversational marketing platform for Messenger and SMS. We work together while located in cities around the world such as San Francisco, New York City, Toronto, Seoul, Barcelona, and many more! This Q&A series highlights one of our talented team members and their role at Octane AI.

Valentina Barron is an Account Manager at Octane AI helping brands and agencies implement Messenger and SMS marketing. Beyond being a Messenger and SMS marketing expert, she's an avid traveller as an Australian based in Canada.

We interviewed Valentina on her role, what she loves about Octane AI, and how she works remotely. Check out her answers below!

Q: What is your role at Octane AI?

I’m one of the Account Managers here at Octane AI! My role is help all of our top-tier merchants and agencies utilize the incredible features that Octane AI has to offer. We help create and implement customized Messenger and SMS strategies, and organize and run campaigns. We’re constantly coming up with new strategies and ideas. While also monitoring and tweaking every campaign to help brands and agencies see results with Messenger and SMS marketing.

Q: What do you love most about working at Octane AI?

If I had to pick one thing, it would have to be our incredible team. Every single person on the team is so switched on and motivated. There isn't a day that goes by where someone isn’t throwing out a new idea, highlighting something that’s happening in our industry, discussing new features that we’re working on, or figuring out where we can make improvements. It feels unreal to be a part of. The discussions make you feel so included no matter what department you’re in, and it motivates you to want to give  everything you’ve got every day!

Q: What’s the coolest thing you’ve done since working remotely at Octane AI?

I’m half Canadian and half Australian but I’m currently living in Canada! Since moving to Canada about 3 and a half years ago, I haven’t been able to visit my family in Australia for longer than 2 weeks at a time. I’d say the coolest thing that I’ve been able to do was being able to fly down to Australia to surprise my parents for Christmas and spend 6 whole weeks with them. I’m not gonna lie, I had to work some pretty crazy hours while I was down there – but it was totally worth it.

Q: What’s your proudest moment so far at Octane AI?

Since starting, each moment keeps topping the other. First, it was putting together my first proposal and sending it off. Now, it’s leading calls or tackling problems head on. I'm constantly proud when I see brands and agencies we're working with absolutely crush it using our platform.

Q: What do you do before you start your work day?

I try and get up around 6:30am, have a coffee and then head down to the gym for about an hour. Then, I’ll come back up to my apartment, have more coffee, play some music and get ready for the day. The amount of stuff you can get done before 9am is honestly amazing when you don’t have to factor in a 30-50 minute commute to your morning!

Q: How do you stay connected with your team?

Myself and my teammate, Marina, an Account Manager who's based in Spain, call each other every morning at 10am. It's such a great way to start the day. By the time we’ve discussed our previous day and night, talked about the Netflix shows we’re currently watching, and had a few sips of coffee, we’re ready to chat business after 10 minutes! Being a fully remote team makes having informal communication so important. By working this into calls, I've never felt isolated or alone ever since I've started working remotely. Sometimes I can’t get over how effectively we do communicate over different timezones and channels. Whether it’s over Slack, a quick call, or a weekly all-hands meeting, we’re in constant communication and know what's going on in all departments.

Q: What advice would you give to someone who wants to work remotely?

I would tell someone to make sure you think about what you value in your work before going remote! It's important to be a self-starter and create a workflow structure that enables you to do your best. I think if you love what you do and you’re able to create a space for yourself that makes you excited to get up and get to work every day, you can’t go wrong. I love the little workspace I’ve created for myself and I’m only just getting started!

Q: What advice would you give to someone who wants to work as an Account Manager?

Being in an account management role can be super rewarding while at times challenging. When you work so closely with merchants and agencies, you share their incredible weeks and wins as much as when things don't go as planned. Every business or client has ups and downs, but you need to make sure you’re always one step ahead and you’re always prepared to have answers to the tough questions.

Q: What makes you smile?

Coffee. Dogs. Vegemite. And Baby Yoda memes.
