Connor: Hey Cody, thanks for taking the time to chat with us here. We love getting to know our partners better so that our community can benefit from what our partners are offering and doing in the industry. To get started, can you give us a high level overview of 727 Digital and how it got started?

Cody: 727 Digital is a direct response advertising & marketing agency based out of St Pete Florida, aka the 727 area code. Our team was started in 2017 off the tail end of an agency partnership with Kevin Harrington from Shark Tank, called Quantum Media.

When that venture ended, our entire team stuck together to build 727 into a powerhouse advertising and marketing agency that focuses on scaling both retail brands in local markets and online product brands worldwide. Some of our clients include Winghouse, The Melting Pot, 22 Below, All American Canine Dog Supplements, Bestbaseballgifts.com and personal brands such as Robert Ordway.

Connor: That’s awesome! Can you dive a bit more into the advertising and development services that you offer? I’m sure our audience would love to know exactly what problems you could solve for them.

Cody: Paid advertising is a nuanced skill. With our team, we focus on what is called a “contribution margin” aka NET PROFIT. We focus on direct response advertising on all the major platforms such as Meta, Tik Tok, and Google as well as build completely custom websites, online SaaS, Shopify apps, and ecommerce stores leveraging Shopify and WordPress. It is our belief that great content is key to great marketing and content is the source for high performing paid advertising efforts.

Connor: Jumping off of that…if there was one problem you’d say that 727 Digital solves best for your clients, what would it be? Why?

Cody: We work lock step in making sure you are profitable. We are not just an agency, but as brand owners and business owners ourselves, we understand that you pay bills with profit not revenue.

The single biggest thing we hear from our clients is understanding all moving parts of their business to ensure we are doing what is right for their bottom line. Many of our clients have been with us since month one back in 2017.

Connor: As the company continues to grow over the next year, what are your plans for expansion? Any new products or offerings or enhancements to your current products?

Cody: We believe in servicing our clients to the best of our ability. We are an application only agency, meaning in order to work with us, you would need to fill out an application and go through an entire partner brief.

We want to ensure we can provide any client with the best services and that only if we know they are committed to being a partner, not just pay us to do a task and then ask us for the result they want. Without their buy in, we do not work with them. We pride ourselves in being the best, and that comes first.

Connor: And how specifically would you say that 727 Digital and your team is different from other similar businesses in the industry?

Cody: Our team works on performance based contracts for advertising. Outside of the services of web development, we put our skills to the test and ONLY get paid if we perform. Many businesses rely on retainers and check the box, we have small retainers and like to give ourselves the infinite ability to scale by driving the best outcome and profit for our partners.

Connor: What made you decide to get involved in the advertising and development space? What’s your starting ecommerce story? From what we’ve found, a lot of business owners in advertising and development have fun stories of how they first started…

Cody: I started out in SEO working for Findlaw.com under Thompson Reuters in Minneapolis. Somewhere around the year 2013, Target corporation headquartered in Downtown Minneapolis was looking to build a paid social team. The goals were to launch their Cartwheel App and drive sales to their dotcom.

This is where I really learned the skill of paid advertising with an unlimited budget and a room full of creative minds, several years of working at a fortune 50 company gave me the courage to build my own business. In 2015, I started my first ecommerce business and by 2017 had a marketing agency with Kevin Harrington from Shark Tank.

Now we have several businesses we own and operate and work with several brands under our agency, 727 Digital.

Connor: Love it! Talking more about the ecommerce industry, where do you see it going in the next 1-2 years? Any unique predictions that you could share?

Cody: Ecommerce and buying in general in a digital world will become less demand driven and more AI driven. Meaning, we will eventually be able to know if you do not have milk in your fridge and have it delivered to your house before you know you need it. Same goes for every product you buy. Content is currently king in the internet world and will always be a major piece.

Connor: Giving you an open mic for a minute, what is something you’d want the EcomBalance audience to hear?

Cody: Content is key. A steady flow of content that gains impressions and eyeballs will do more for you than any partnership, patented product idea, secret advertising strategy, or marketing tools. Great content always wins. If you can’t do great content, do a lot.

Connor: Changing gears a little bit…When it comes to bookkeeping and accounting, what do you think the biggest pain points for business owners are? Feel free to speak from personal experience as well.

Cody: Many accounting firms or business owners do not understand the online business world. As I mentioned before, Contribution Margin aka net profit, pays your bills. This is your EBITDA. The world of frivolous valuations is a thing of the past. So understanding you profitability and where you’re leaking is the biggest pain point. How do you fix a problem you don’t know you have?

Connor: As we close this out, I just have one more question. Where is the best place to find and follow you and the company online? Also, if you have one, is there any special offer that you’ll be offering to the community today?
