The lion’s share: A day in the life of… Dan Jacobs (Senior Loyalty Analyst)

A day in the life of Dan Jacobs, a Senior Loyalty Analyst at The Lion's Share.

This blog series gives insight into the day-to-day life of LoyaltyLion’s employees. We’ll look at members from all teams – diving into their roles and responsibilities – how they started their careers and what they do in their spare time.

So let’s meet Dan Jacobs, a LoyaltyLion Senior Loyalty Analyst.

What is your morning routine?

Before COVID-19, I’d spend my mornings commuting to work from Essex on the crammed Central Line. I would pass the journey by scrolling through Twitter to catch up on the news and read all the sports headlines of the day. During COVID-19, I’m doing exactly the same but from the comfort of my own home!

The sports news is usually followed by a cup of tea, a slice of toast and a hot shower. Then I’m ready to begin the day, starting with the Sales daily stand-up on Zoom.

Why does what you do matter?

The Sales team has a huge role in helping potential customers with their ecommerce needs; identifying pain points and ways we can help them move forward.

We often provide a merchant’s first experience with LoyaltyLion, and first impressions count for a lot. Creating a long-lasting impact on the customer helps with trust, growth and retention moving forward. Embodying the company brand image, and building trust with the customer from the very first interaction is a big responsibility, but a rewarding one.

It’s a really exciting time to be at LoyaltyLion, as there are huge growth plans afoot. So as the main drivers of revenue,  the Sales team has a key role in helping move the company forward.

How did you get the job?

Having had some post-university experience in SaaS sales, I began a graduate scheme in wealth management. A year down the line and I was itching to get back into SaaS, looking for a company with an exciting, flexible culture, clear training structure and career progression. LoyaltyLion ticked all the boxes, having come across them on both Linkedin and Indeed.

What does a typical day look like?

The day always begins with the Sales daily standup; a really helpful meeting that we’ve started since working from home, where we discuss plans for the day. After that, there’s no typical day – I could have five demos with barely time to sneak in lunch, or no demos and time to focus on my pipeline and outbound. No two days are the same, and it’s one of the reasons I enjoy it so much.

How do you spend your evening?

I try to take a walk most days after work, particularly if I haven’t managed to get out at all. Lockdown has allowed me to find some great spots near my house that I didn’t know existed! A general evening will involve a bit of FIFA, a big dinner with my family before settling down for some TV. If there’s no game of football on, we’ll put on whatever Netflix series we’re binging – currently watching Money Heist and highly recommend!

What’s your proudest achievement at LoyaltyLion?

Definitely my progression through the Sales team. Career progression and opportunities were highlighted to me throughout the interview process and made LoyaltyLion stand out for me. I was promoted twice within my first 12 months, from Sales Graduate up to Senior Loyalty Analyst. To already be helping with the onboarding sessions of new starters is something I am immensely proud of.

Tell us your favorite thing about LoyaltyLion.

My favorite thing about LoyaltyLion is never dreading going into work! There’s a great balance between a fun, relaxed, light-hearted atmosphere and a hard-working one. We’re encouraged to take the lead on tasks, to find new ways to do things – and there’s also a lot of flexibility within our work culture too. We were working from home before it was necessary!

What advice would you give to someone thinking of joining the company?

Never be afraid to ask questions if you don’t understand something. There’s always someone who’s been in your position before, and the product is constantly evolving so there’s always something new to learn. It’s a challenge, but an exciting one.

Dan is a Senior Loyalty Analyst here at LoyaltyLion. Unfortunately, he has no pets. But he does play football for the LoyaltyLion five-a-side team (Olympique Loyalty Lyon) and another Sunday League team. He’s a huge fan of Leeds United and follows them home and away around the country.
