Get More Product Reviews and Boost Your Sales

88% of customers trust reviews as much as personal recommendations or referrals.

Studies show that most customers trust product reviews more than anything else. This is because they feel that what is posted by another customer or user of a product is true. The opinion expressed by different customers can attract a potential customer or scare away others. Did you know that customer reviews can boost your conversion rates? Approximately 88 percent of customers trust reviews as much as personal recommendations or referrals. So, how do you get a 5-star product review without bribing your customers with crazy offers or spending hours on your computer?

Thanks to my friends at Bold Commerce for the inspiration to this post. Here are 7 of the best tips to get more products reviews which will boost sales for your Shopify store.

Simply ask for reviews

The reason why some business websites and online stores do not have reviews is that they do not ask their customers to review and rate their products and services. You can do this by creating a “write a review or rate us” button on all your product pages.

Go mobile and make it easier to write a review

A huge percentage of customers today use their mobile phones and tablets to make purchases online. Unfortunately, some retailers have made the process of buying and even writing a review very complicated. Simply create a one-click purchase and review process and allow the customers to leave reviews on their mobile gadgets.

Send a post-purchase product review request

Yotpo emphasizes that post-purchase emails are the number one way to get product reviews. Naturally, a customer will write a review because they are excited; it’s just a spark of the moment. When you send a customer a post-purchase product review request, they will feel appreciated and will likely write a review. It will also encourage your customer to continue buying from your store and share their experiences with their friends and family.

Ask for reviews on the right products

The biggest mistake made by many online retailers and stores is to ask for reviews on almost each and every product. Although this might sound like a strategy, it can become a nuisance to some customers especially those that purchase more than one product from your store. Be strategic and ask for reviews on those expensive, high-tech products or fast moving products.

Do not neglect other products

Do not ignore other products especially those that are slow movers. For example, if a customer purchases two or three products with a slow moving product included, you should ask for a review the slower moving product. This will create trust among your existing and potential customers when they see a full range of honest and timely reviews.

Appreciate your customers

Always endeavor to respond to all your customer reviews. This is because they have a choice to review or not to review your products and by reviewing, they are doing you and your business a huge favor. You can use discounts, freebies and mention your loyal customers on your social media pages as a sign of appreciation.  End of the day, your customers are your business’s lifeblood. Treat them with respect and appreciation and it will be returned to you 10x.

Offer great products and great service

Customers will review great and not-so-awesome products. Since your goal is to get 5-star reviews ensure that your products are of the highest quality. Understand how to respond to your customer’s needs and queries on time and practice great customer service and you will get stellar reviews from your raving fans.

There’s no denying that product reviews can significantly boost your Shopify store’s conversion rate and sales.   What product reviews app are you using?  Shopify Product ReviewsJudge.me?  YotPo?  What success are you seeing? Share your feedback in the comments.
